Plateau Teams with BEA Systems to Provide Scalable Software Infrastructure for World's Largest e-Learning Initiatives

Global enterprises rely on Plateau 4 Learning Management System (LMS) and BEA WebLogic Platform to deliver learning to millions of students worldwide

ARLINGTON, VA June 19, 2003 Plateau Systems, the leading provider of enterprise Learning Management Systems (LMS), today announced a partnership with BEA Systems (Nasdaq: BEAS) to deliver the software infrastructure for the largest non-profit and corporate e-Learning initiatives in the industry. The companies plan to jointly manage learning and software infrastructure for several million students at Global 2000, government and non-profit organizations worldwide.

Organizations from the American Red Cross to Union Pacific have implemented BEA WebLogic Server™ and Plateau 4 Learning Management System to consolidate all of their Web-based and classroom learning on one scalable platform. BEA's application infrastructure, coupled with Plateau's industry-standard, J2EE/EJB-based LMS, can provide virtually unlimited scalability for organizations that need to deliver learning and knowledge readiness to hundreds of thousands of students across their supply chain, in locations all over the world.

Plateau and BEA have won the industry's largest contracts to provide this scalable solution for non-profit organizations and multinational corporations. These are set to include:

  • The American Red Cross: Plateau 4 LMS and BEA WebLogic will manage internal and external training for millions of students for the Red Cross. This has the potential to be the largest e-Learning initiative in existence
  • Military Health System (Tricare): Providing HIPAA training to 130,000 healthcare providers across the U.S. military, under a contract primed by Booz Allen Hamilton
  • Union Pacific: Delivering regulatory compliance training to 50,000 engineers and personnel across the United States

Plateau and BEA also are currently implementing two of the largest corporate e-Learning initiatives ever undertaken. One is for a Fortune 10 company with 400,000 employees and contractors around the world. The other is for one of the nation's largest restaurant retailers, which will be designed to provide learning to more than 200,000 employees at hundreds of franchises via Plateau 4 LMS and BEA WebLogic Server.

BEA and Plateau have proved in the most rigorous environments that they can deliver the industry's largest-scale software infrastructure solutions for learning and human capital management, said Scott Edgington, vice president and general manager, BEA Systems. Plateau 4 LMS' Web-based architecture is a perfect fit for BEA's highly responsive infrastructure solutions, and we plan to jointly pursue large-scale learning initiatives around the world.

Plateau is extremely pleased to be a BEA partner, and our customers have been very satisfied with the joint Web-based solution our two companies offer, said Paul Sparta, Plateau's CEO and Chairman. By managing all learning and human capital management on a highly scalable, thin-client platform, organizations are able to save millions of dollars in enterprise training while educating their workforce in a more strategic, targeted fashion.
